Every WUTA Kids Orca T-Shirt includes an original photograph of a wild killer whale captured by Wake Up To Adventure during real encounters in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

For a young wildlife lover, that photograph turns the animal on their shirt into something real—an orca that actually moved through the ocean, traveled with family, surfaced to breathe, and lived wild in the waters we work to protect. Whenever the individual whale can be identified, we’ll also include their name or identification number and a little of their story.

Our hope is that the photograph becomes more than something they keep. It becomes another reason to ask questions, learn about wildlife, and care about what happens to the animals and wild places they’re beginning to discover.

Young killer whales enter a world built around family, knowledge, and traditions passed from generation to generation. Southern Resident calves grow up traveling alongside mothers, siblings, grandparents, and other relatives as they learn where salmon can be found, how their family communicates, and how to navigate the waters of the Pacific Northwest.

Bigg’s killer whale calves grow up learning a different way of life—watching family members move quietly through the ocean, work together, and develop the patience and precision required to hunt marine mammals. For a young orca, the ocean is both home and classroom. Every journey teaches something, every interaction matters, and every generation carries knowledge forward.

That connection inspired the WUTA Kids Orca—a design for young explorers discovering wildlife, asking questions, getting outside, and beginning to understand just how extraordinary the natural world really is. Because protecting wildlife begins long before adulthood. It begins with the moment a kid looks at a wild animal and thinks:

I want this to be here forever.

For every WUTA Kids Orca T-Shirt purchased, $1 is donated directly to the Orca Behavior Institute (OBI), a San Juan Island–based nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of wild killer whales through non-invasive research, education, and science-based advocacy.

OBI studies Southern Resident and Bigg’s killer whales throughout the Pacific Northwest, building long-term knowledge about their behavior, family relationships, movements, and changing ecosystem. That research helps scientists, decision-makers, and the public better understand what these animals need to survive and thrive in the wild.

We believe one of the most powerful things we can give the next generation is a connection to wildlife—and the understanding that the animals they grow up admiring will need people willing to protect them.
